Throughout the 1980s and 90s, for decades on end, television and film have portrayed geeks and nerds as individuals who invested all of their time worrying about their jobs and technology. These losers, in many cases men, spent their days calculating and researching on their computers. This placed an unfavorable stain on the computer and one's passion for technology as being geeky and best suited to professions such as mathematics, engineering, and science. Yet within a few years, technology knowledge and application have increased significantly. Nearly everyone has a Blackberry, iPod, and/or cell phone readily available at all times. Gadgetry has replaced the new accessories in our daily lives and fashion designers are attempting to adapt to this new trend and create clothing that appeals to the technologically inclined consumer. Firms such as Nike, Columbia, and Levi Strauss have all produced clothing that conceals the wires but brings the controllers of the gadget within easy reach. Columbia has launched an iPod-friendly jacket and Levi has brought out iPod jeans with a joystick in the watch pocket Geller. Hewlett-Packard is also similarly following suit by developing and marketing new laptops/notebooks to appeal to a wider market. Hewlett-Packard's ad for Envy 13 advertises its new technology as stylish to attract the contemporary woman.
