What is a Sainik School?
Sainik Schools are residential schools established by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. They are affiliated with the CBSE and are designed to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA).

Eligibility Criteria for Sainik School Admission
Age Limit for Sainik School Admission
The age criteria for Sainik School entrance are revised regularly and depend on the class of admission:

Class 6 Admission: The child must be 10 to 12 years old as on 31st March of the year of admission. Admission is open for both boys and girls.

Class 9 Admission: The candidate should be 13 to 15 years old as on 31st March of the year of admission. Admission is open only for boys in most schools; however, selected schools have started enrolling girls too.

Note: No relaxation in age is granted, and even a single day's variation can result in disqualification.

Educational Qualification
For Class 6: The student must be currently studying in Class 5 in a recognized school at the time of applying.

For Class 9: The candidate should be enrolled in Class 8 in a recognized school.

Important: The medium of examination for Class 6 is English, Hindi, and regional languages, while for Class 9 it is English only.

Nationality Criteria
Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply.

NRI or foreign nationals are not eligible.

Gender Eligibility
Class 6: Open for both boys and girls.
